Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located many other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior political figure commented the incident made him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
